ABOUT ME
I am Gülay Gürkan, an astrophysicist/astronomer. My primary research goals are directed towards understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies. Within this topic, my focus has been on accretion modes in radio-loud active galactic nuclei (RLAGN), the relation between AGN and their host galaxies, and their effects on the evolution of galaxies. Additionally, I am interested in star formation in normal galaxies using radio observations, the properties of quasars through sensitive and high-resolution radio observations, faint source populations, and binary/dual AGN systems.
I am currently working as a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR) and the Centre of Data Innovation Research (CoDIR) at the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
As a Senior Lecturer, I teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in data science and supervise research students in astrophysics and data science.

SERVICE
-
I am co-lead of EMU RLAGN SWG, at large executive member of POSSUM.
-
I serve as a referee for several publications including MNRAS and time assessment committees of many telescopes.
-
I served as the chair of the MWA-Galactic and Extragalactic Science group.
DIVERSITY
I am particularly interested in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in Astronomy, and in science.
I served as the representative of the CASS-Perth Diversity Committee and the Equity Contact Officer (for which I have been trained) at CASS-Perth during my fellowship.
I remain interested in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives in astronomy and science.
